Mrs. Catherine Garza-Salazar believes that every child is different and can succeed through hard work, dedication, and with the proper guidance from school personnel. She also believes that it takes a village to raise a child. All stakeholders are valuable to her and she fosters collaboration among administration, staff, students, parents, and the community.
Catherine Garza-Salazar graduated from Edinburg High School in 1998, in the top ten percent of her class. She graduated with a Bachelors’ degree in Political Science from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio in 2002. She earned her teaching certificate through the Alternative Certification Program from the University of Texas Pan American in 2004. She then earned her Masters’ degree in Educational Leadership also from UTPA in 2008. Mrs. Garza-Salazar is in her 18th year of her educational career, including 3 years as a middle school special education teacher, and 10 years as a high school special education teacher and head varsity tennis coach. Mrs. Garza-Salazar is in her 5th year serving as an administrator at South Middle School. She is currently the Curriculum Assistant. Mrs. Garza-Salazar enjoys serving others. Her hobbies include reading, fishing, traveling, and spending time with her family.
