A Message from our SMS Principal

May 23 - 28, 2022
Principal’s Message:
This is the sixth week of the Sixth Six-weeks grading period. There are only seven days of school left. Students need to stay focused and keep working hard in the classroom in order to earn and maintain their Sixth Six Weeks grades.
We will be having our Annual SMS Awards Assemblies on Tuesday, May 24th, in the gymnasium. Students will be presented with awards to include Superintendent’s Award; “A” Honor Roll; “A & B” Honor Roll; “B” Honor Roll, Outstanding Achievement in Core Subjects; AR Millionaires; AR Multi-Millionaires; and Perfect Attendance. Students have been notified if they will be receiving an award and their parents are welcome to attend as follows:
Monday, May 20, 2019
· 8th Grade – 9:00 – 10:30 a.m.
· 7th Grade – 11:00 - 12:30 noon
· 6th Grade – 1:00 – 2:30 p.m.
We will be having semester exams this week for our high school credit courses on Wednesday and Thursday, May 25th and 26th. Make-Up Exams will be the following week on Tuesday, May 31st.
There are some important end-of-the-year field trips and Celebrations this week. Please remind students they are to conduct themselves in a respectful manner as they represent South Middle School.
CONGRATULATIONS are in order for our SMS Choir Directors, Mrs. Champion and Mrs. Castaneda, and our SMS Choir students who performed their 2022 Spring Concert this past Thursday, May 19th. It was a fun-filled night for all, accentuated by beautiful music by our talented and versatile SMS Choir students.
ECISD/SMS will continue to offer After School Dinner Meals Monday through Friday from 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. in the cafeteria. Students will be served an entrée, one vegetable, one fruit and their choice of milk. Students are encouraged to go daily to pick up their meal before going home or to their SMS after school activities.
Parents, this is a reminder that the drop-off/pick-up area is located on the west side of the campus. Students must remain in this area until their parents pick them up. Students are not to cross the street and loiter on private property. The east side fenced in parking lot is for SMS staff parking and school bus traffic only. The front office parking area is for Special Education buses and the parents of our students with special needs. Please abide by these SMS traffic/parking guidelines to ensure the safety of all our students. We have supervision in our SMS Cafeteria beginning at 7:00 a.m. Breakfast will be served in the cafeteria from 7:30 – 8:10 a.m. Please drop your students off as early as possible after 7:00 a.m. to avoid the drop-off line that begins around 7:35 a.m. We would like students seated in their classrooms, ready for instruction, by 8:15 a.m.
Dr. Mary Frances Garza
