Principal’s Message:
We are in the third week of the 4th Six Weeks grading period. Since this grading period has seven weeks, Progress Reports will not be due until the end of next week on Friday, January 28, 2022. There is a lot of hard work and learning ahead of us. Please encourage your students to keep up with AR Reading and testing, daily assignments, and homework. Often, it is a little harder to keep teenagers interested in reading, but it is important for our students to understand that the college entrance exams (ACT and SAT) all have a verbal section. The BEST way to prepare for the verbal section of those future exams is to READ, READ, READ challenging books.
We are continuing After-School and Saturday Tutoring. Saturday Tutoring is scheduled for the 29th of this month. If you need tutoring permission slips, please visit with our Testing/Tutorial Facilitator, Mrs. Caren Deaton; Curriculum Assistant, Mrs. Catherine Salazar; or our head counselor, Mr. Joe Martinez.
Our Boys’ Basketball, and Girls’ Soccer teams will be battling it out with the other ECISD middle schools this week.  Please go out and support our student athletes as they represent South Middle School.
ECISD/SMS will continue to offer After School Dinner Meals Monday through Friday from 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. in the cafeteria. Students will be served an entrée,one vegetable, one fruit and their choice of milk.Students are encouraged to go daily to pick up their meal before going home or to their SMS after school activities.
Parents, this is a reminder that the drop-off/pick-up area is located on the west side of the campus.  Students must remain in this area until their parents pick them up. Students are not to cross the street and loiter on private property. The east side fenced in parking lot is for SMS staff parking and school bustraffic only.  The front office parking area is for Special Education buses and the parents of our students with special needs.  Please abide by these SMS traffic/parking guidelines to ensure the safety of all ourstudents. We have supervision in our SMS Gym as early as 7:00 a.m. with breakfast in student’s 1st period classroom at 7:50 a.m. Please drop your students off as early as possible after 7:00 a.m. to avoid the drop-offline that begins around 7:35 a.m. We would like students seated in their classrooms, ready for instruction, by 8:15 a.m.
