Today, on World Down Syndrome Day, SMS pays tribute to honor students through a heartfelt video that highlights the achievements, strengths, and resilience of our REBCAT students. This is a moment to recognize and celebrate the wonderful individuals in our community. It's a chance for all of us to come together and show our support and appreciation. Let's take this opportunity to celebrate diversity and our incredible REBCAT PRIDE.

Hello everyone, I am Mr. Russen R. Vela and I am thrilled to welcome you to our special video tribute to World Down Syndrome Day here at South Middle School, we believe in celebrating the diversity and unique abilities of all our students In this video, you will see some incredible individuals from our campus as they shine a spotlight on the talents and strengths of those with down syndrome. So join us as we come together as a community to learn, support and embrace the beauty of differences. Hey there, my name is Denetzy Gonzalez, Hi, its me, Aaron my name is James Tijerina my name is Sophie Allison hi, I'm Ella, my name is Aaron, my name is Alejandro Martinez Hi, I'm Super Ben Ben is very energetic, in everything he does. He always brings a smile to my face, he's one of the best friends anyone could ever have. I love my friend Aaron. I love when I see my friend Ella. My best friend is Jacob Seeing friends like Aaron make my day a whole lot better and when you meet someone who is a little you might be scared or uncomfortable at first but thats OK, its OK because anything new is a little scary at first because once you learn more about it, you get used to it Rebcats, what we need is knowledge. Knowledge helps you undertstand Understanding makes it easier to accept All of us are different, we're different No one is exactly the same, we all have our talents characteristics strengths and challenges I have down syndrome, i have 46 chromosones and my friend Ben has 47 i have something extra down syndrome is something they were born with It is something I live with everyday I will have it my whole life It's just one part of who they are It's one part of my beautiful self He's one of the best friends anyone could ever have It's easy to be friends with someone who has down syndrome just treat them like any other kid be patient with me, be kind to me it's all they ask for, be kind and be patient People like Ben, Ella and Aaron can offer the same friendship anyone can I am a good friend some of my friends have down syndrome and some of them don't Anyone can be a friend because when you have the knowledge knowledge helps you understand, UNDERSTAND when you know what down syndrome is, you understand you understand why kids with down syndrome seem a little bit different you understand that we are all different in our own ways and when you understand, you can accept accept that some kids  have down syndrome and they are still just a kid a kid just like you, just like you just like you!
